Hellen Sims

Hellen is a graduate of San Jose State University with a degree in history and is a former high school educator, who taught both history and government classes. Currently she co-leads an Empowerment Program for youth and volunteers with the Reading Partners program. She serves on the executive board for Help Kenyan Children Thrive and Survive, Inc. Hellen was also a principal organizer of the Obama Coalition of Silicon Valley, which facilitated get out the vote and major fundraising for both the 2008 and 2012 elections of President Obama. She also was elected an Obama delegate to the Democratic Nation Convention and attended both Presidential Inaugurations in Washington, DC. She is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and her church community.

Personal Statement: “NAACP is my vocal point because it allows me to serve my community in the struggle for justice for all, especially the vulnerable members of our society. Community service is the rent we pay for living on our wonderful planet. I value the contributions of my ancestors.”
