Educator, Activist, and Community Leader, LaToya Fernandez, dedicates her career to teaching students equity and justice. As a Restorative Justice Coordinator, LaToya has served in local San Jose schools where she supports students, educators and families.
Latoya is a record breaking teacher who not only spreads awareness but she also authored and continues to implement a social justice based; common core aligned curriculum for students in grades k-5. Now also working as the Multi Tiered Student Support Services Lead at Downtown College Prep, she serves the community as a District 3 Neighborhoods Commissioner and is a board member for the Tech Museum’s Educator Advisory Board.
This year she served as a chairperson for the Youth Outreach Committee amde for the Women’s March- San Jose. Alongside these roles, Latoya continues to be an active community advocate who is passionate about creating platforms for youth.
Youthhype, a local community based organization that serves youth marginalized in San Jose. As its Founder, she guides young people in obtaining empowerment, self esteem and a positive self image.
